I'd like a second opinion on whether the woofer in
the picture is damaged. The seller says it's fine.
Thanks.

The cone looks stained, as most Lansaplas woofers of that vintage are. The edge doping looks a little sloppy, I've never seen that before on a 123A
Since the surrounds are cloth, they don't rot, but could
the surround be starting to separate from the cone?
One of two possiblilities, as I see it:
1) the woofer has been reconed or at least re-doped on the edge, by someone who wasn't terribly careful
2) (more likely) the white Lansaplas has chipped off the edge of the cone, most likely by someone scraping the cone against something. Probably wouldn't hurt the sound much, but definitely ugly.
I'd send him an email, and ask him to come out and forthrightly say that there is no cone damage (ie, the cone edge isn't crinkled, buckled or cracked)... IME, 123A kits are like hen's teeth to get hold of, so reconing yourself after buying, probably isn't something you want to do...
Regards,
Gordon.
Thanks for your observations and advice. They just sold for $325.
I have a pair of these up for auction (ends in 2 hours).
By comparing my pictures vs. the other, I would say his could be slightly damaged.
