    L50 refresh advice

I just finished visiting with my brother in law in Asheville, NC and he took me up to the attic where he has a beautiful pair of JBL L50s that he bought new in the late 70s. Well to no oneÂ’s surprise they need new foam surrounds on the woofers & one VC seems to rub from sitting so long. Does anyone have any thoughts on this project? Also is anyone aware of a good JBL shop near Asheville, NC?
    Thanks
    Paul

It's not really an issue if the voice coil is rubbing after the foam has disintegrated as the foam is one of the main things keeping the voice coil centered. If it keeps rubbing after you try to center it, it's also possible that some debris (maybe disintegrating foam) has gotten into the voice coil gap.

I agree that the repair is not that difficult to do yourself especially if you watch a couple of videos first, go slow and take your time.

Thanks for the responses. I’d like to find a shop that specializes in these repairs. Anyone know of anything in North Carolina?
