    066 aftermarket repair?

Was there someone doing 066 aftermarket repairs at one time? Glued a dome over a dented dome?
    Odd looking.

    That's a Ti dome.

Is that a JBL factory dome?
I know I love my JBL's but I am not as well versed with JBL as many here which is why this site is a great resource.
The photo below are the only 066s I have ever seen.

No the original was phenolic with a vacuum deposited aluminum coating. There was never a JBL option for a Ti diaphragm. That is an aftermarket or DIY replacement/modification.

When JBL announced the deposition process I talked to a JBL retail rep and they were very proud of the process.
Given the amount dented domes out there aftermarket replacements might sell a few units.

Thank You for answering my question

Actually, I believe JBL referred to it as a "vapor deposition process" which many here have likened to spray painting.

You know I heard that as well where they were just using a spray can. Originally this is how they say it was done. Sputtering is done under vacuum we use it all the time at work. That's why I called it vacuum deposition.

Can I send you a few 044s for a refresh?

Lol unfortunately no! I would be shot on sight putting it into one of the machines. It's all cleanroom and you have to go through a rather elaborate cleaning regiment before you can put anything into one. Back to the paint can!

As I recall Giskard recounting the 066 dome story, the aluminum was sputtered until the machine broke; then they resorted to spraying.

When I get around to it, I think I'll try an air-brush.
