    JBL design patents

Are JBL speaker cabinet designs protected by copyright/trademark/patents?

Not that I am aware of except maybe the TCB subs maybe the new high flow low resistance ports but otherwise you could get plans for say Hartsfield or Paragon. They published enclosure plans for box size and tuning for drivers so you could DIY. Certain things like the sculptured grills or perforated grills for an L166 may have been but just the boxes no.

I think i saw the new vent referred to, called SlipStream?, is a patended design. Pretty sure about this...

    JBL's recent port (Slipstream).

The name is trade marked and the design is patented based on JBL info shown.

There must be some untold story here than just flared ends, since double-flared ports were common probably even before JBL patended this model. At last, one might hope this one is based on the advanced vent work of Harman Engineers Salvatti, Devantier and Button.

That may justify the patent granted compared to some other designs...

I suspect that searching at the USPTO website will turn up a plethora of patents and trademarks from JBL over the past several decades.
