    Question Match speakers and amplifiers

I want to match speakers and amplifiers. Is it good to put 4 JBL PRX415 (600W Program / 8ohms ) on a Crown xti4002, two per channel?
The power has the following specs:
Stereo, 2 ohms (per ch.): 1600W
Stereo, 4 ohms (per ch.): 1200W
Stereo, 8 ohms (per ch.): 650W
    Bridge-Mono, 8 ohms: 2400W
    Bridge-Mono, 4 ohms: 3200W

JBL's nominal only 8 ohm impedance for the PRX 415M can be tricky. Actually it can be less than that. I have not seen on the spec sheet a system impedance curve, nor a system minimum impedance figure. So you're somewhat left in the dark.

If the amp can do 2 ohm on a sustained basis you should be ok, you need to check the Crown's spec sheet for this. If too much current is drawn at high level due to low impedance of the speaker pair the amp's protection circuit would likely trigger to protect itself.

In absence of real speaker impedance data, to get some idea of the situation you might want to measure the system's DC resistance with a precise multimeter ($) or an adjusted lower cost and less precise one for its residual resistance.

As an example of this type of situation, i have a pair of speakers rated 6 ohm. At full power the protection circuit triggers on the 4 ohm capable amp. I measured the speakers DC resistance with a good multimeter and got 3.6 ohm! This is very low for a 6 ohm speaker system, no wonder power was cut-off. When in the dark the rule of thumb to convert DCR to an impedance number is DCR X 1.25. With my speakers this would mean 4.5 ohm. Still a fair distance from the 6 ohm manufacturer's rating...

So in your case i suggest you measure the PRX system DC resistance to avoid a surprise, and take it from there.
