    LE-25 foam

I have some L-88s with LE-25 tweeters. The foam surround is turning to dust. I see on E-bay they are being sold for $5.00 or so each. However:
    1. Is the foam really needed? It's been deteriorating slowly so I haven't noticed any change in the sound.
    2. If it is needed couldn't I just as well use felt? or even find some open cell foam and make my own. Is it full of magic dust or something?

That stuff is supposed to be microphone windscreen material " acoustically transparent" or is that L100 grill foam ?

IN ANY CASE ! I don't think it matters a hell of a lot. My L100's don't have the foam there and never did . I can't hear any untowards reflections , if there are any.

The le25 only does about 15k anyway and that not very forcefully .

I'd say put whatever on it that looks good to you.
