Altec 416-8B - suitable for horn loading?

Just realized I have one of these drivers that I was given some years back, and wonder if I might look for a mate to use in my C40 horns. I would have to switch to active bi-amping but it might be an interesting thing to try.

Also, any thoughts on preference between 816-8B and 8C in terms of sonic quality?

I did a forum search but it seems the engine doesn't recognize 816-8B as a term and a search yields no results.

The 416 was used in the A7 type theater speaker, so it should work. I think the 8b version may use the 16 inch frame so it may not fit. Give it a try. If it fits it should work well.

I have a single 8B and I also have a single 8C. I'd need to find a mate for either one to try this out as it seems they are a bit different spec from each other to use in a stereo system.

The A7 is not known for having much in the way of bottom end, but I think the C40 is a longer tapered horn than the A7 box, so perhaps would elicit more deep bass?

I guess you're suggesting that the bolt holes might not line up because of the frame size?

Might want to verify the required size hole for potential drivers, let alone bolt holes (which would be easier to drill/hide)... could be a clearance issue with the larger frame.

Thanks for the heads up, I do not want to make any modifications to my C40 baffle board, so that might eliminate these.
