Killer wood products for restore/maintain fine wood.

    Hey campers

In my 40 years of woodworking, I’ve used 30 or more different products to maintain wood. My most frustrating example is the surface on the JBL T3 speakers. I’ve used them all and they always end up sort of dried out and splotchy. I learned of a product from my bowl turning lathe work, that is the finest I’ve ever seen, “Mahoney’s oil wax finish”. It’s got a refined walnut oil, bees wax and other additives. My L-200T3 appear as though I recovered them in fine rosewood. I’ve never seen anything like this. Even my wife told me to keep the grills off. She never comments. My JBL “T” series speakers walnut darkened. And the grain started to pop. They have always been a light brown sorta bla. They are incredibly striking. I’ve used this on many oil finished surfaces (legacy JBL, Hafler 300) and finished surfaces like my Boston VR Cherry. It’s even effective in my black finishes like my JBL L5,L3 and all of my RBH.

It dries in a few hours, then you can brush/buff to a satin shine. I’ve never seen anything like it. Even the baby but horns look brand new with this. I don’t work for them fellas. Order a jar and your jaw will drop.

Looks very interesting. From your description I believe you’re using the walnut oil/wax straight from the tub and onto the sanded wood. Have you tried the liquid walnut oil followed by an application of the walnut oil/wax mixture?

I’ve just started to experiment a bit with a few freshly cut 10” bowls of Cherry. I use the refined oil first. I just used the wax in a few finished Wenge bowls and was really impressed. When I added to my Hafler 300 speakers, it was striking. I look forward to additional projects with this pair. Remarkable thus far.

Thank you, clwinbe I just ordered a jar. My poor 4425s are so dry, I buffed them a week ago with a paste wax and they looked a little bit better, but I think they need a better product. Looking forward to trying this!

I have some walnut oil I use on an Andrew Pearce walnut bowl (got the oil from the same place), it really looks good on that. It kinda builds a finish layer after a few applications, but the wax addition sounds intriguing. The going from blah to popping result was really evident, first time I ever used walnut oil. Plus it doesn't stink.

Just a note to say I bought a tub of this and it is indeed the bomb. Just what I was hoping for, but I didn't really know what to try. Thanks for the recommendation!

Amazon shows the oil by itself with free Prime delivery, and a combination of their oil and wax products also with free shipping without Prime.
    And also Rockler has it.

Yeah, I just bought the wax only (I already have some walnut oil, but didn't use any of it on these speakers) off Amazon.

Not to be tacky, but, as always, it'd be nice to see some pictures!
