    The joys of shipping LP’s

Aka, what happens when you purchase a record from a seller who sells things by the billions, and ships it via a carrier who’s boss is trying to drive it into the ground.

Did a binge purchase on one of my favorite albums - Melody Gardot’s “My One and Only Thrill” on vinyl this week. Went out to check the mail this afternoon, Only to find it folded into the mailbox

I’m sure people were dealing with this way before my time, but I haven’t had this problem since I worked at a store that sold Laserdiscs in the 90’s. Maybe I just need a better suspension on my tonearm?

How about a record clamp and vacuum platter?

Well, probably not. What a drag...

oh, that's one of those tracking test disks ??

    (with music as a bonus)

my son ships many hundreds of LPs a year,
always in non-foldable record specific boxes.

    Bend, OR ...

If it's not broken, there may be a plate-glass, lowish oven temp solution.
I tried it once (very poorly) and made a nice vinyl tostada shell. Didn't wait for it to cool long enough.

    Wow...

You should put a note on the inside of the mailbox door that instructs your mail carrier to stop bending/folding your flat packages.

when I ship anything that can be damaged in a mailbox, always write (large marker letters) near the address.

    DO NOT BEND

    never had a complaint.

(or you could get a larger box) ???

I am instead going to restrict my LP purchases to independent record stores, who I know will package correctly, as they cannot afford to absorb the losses the way Amazon can.

Why, Amazon even sells rigid cardboard boxes for shipping vinyl records safely. Hmmmm.....
