    ALTEC 6041 "Build"

    Hello!

I want to build the iconic ALTEC 6041 Monitor. Finding technical information etc. is like pulling teeth! for a speaker built in 1980!

PARTS on hand: 604-168X Stanley Screamer, Altec 416-8A (GPA REBUILD), JBL 2402H Alnico Tweeter & SOLEN Crossover Components.

Any & all help would be appreciated by all!

Last link is to PDF owner manual, tried to post it here but too large for the site to accept it.

Much of the info is in Japanese since the speaker was made for Japan market. Still a number of things can be understood specially with regards to specs numbers.

    Good luck.

    6041

I engaged the Electori staff in discussion of the 6041 many years ago at a CES meet and greet. A long walk down Las Vegas Blvd and memory lane.

At the time they still had staffing who had been part of that project. I was told they had noting in the way of documents remaining and not much if anything "earth-shatering" to share other than it was a very low volume product. I don't believe any of the staffing present at the time of build for that speaker are still around. That said, I suspect you will be able to get pretty close as I don't believe they deviated too far from accepted use on the standard Altec 604k, other than filling in around the edges with a bit more hardware.

Electori was and is predominately a high end "pro-sound" contractor. High performance 2-channel has always been their real passion but a very small part of their day to day. I got the sense that that speaker was very much a dressed up and and only slightly refined FOH monitor

Ok.. That would explain why none of those are available anywhere.

    Cool Onken 6041-204

    Ok..

    UPDATE: JUN 28 2020

I modified a pair of ONKEN 360L's (4 Port Model - Not the Petite) (See my ICON PIC of the Cabinet) - I used 13.75Hz as a box port frequency ref. & I only used 2 of the 8 ports. WOW!! what a difference in bass response!

I also switched the crossover point on the 2405H to 8000k. It came alive! - It was lacking something at 6500k. (I changed from a 2402H to a 2405H Tweeter. Better top end response.)

I will post some updated pics soon.. I want to smoothout all the rough edges and paint the cabinet first.

Quite frankly this one of the best speakers I have ever heard! I had the Onken 360L's running and thought wow! This new build BLEW THEM AWAY!
