    Box for JBL 2226h

Hi, I’planning a box with these components:
JBL 2226h, JBL 2425h with wood horn (see the pictures) and JBL 2405. I have no problem for the crossover, my problem is to calculate the right volume, the hole (diameter and depth) of the enclosure to obtain best lower frequency. Then, I accept every idea for a beautiful box, I have a good woodworker!
    Thanks, Giuseppe

    Nice looking horn.

Without anything more than a TS 2226H model to work from... it might be fun to consider an internal volume of 5ft3 + fiberglass with two 4" ports ranging from 4" to 7", depending on your taste in bass vs boom (50Hz bump with the shorter tube). A significant peak at ~180Hz could be mitigated as the DD55000 Everest (passive) or with an electronic PEQ (my preference ... model was happy with Q=0.45, -5dB). I believe more than one person here has cut wood on a 2226 + horn top two-way project and may chime in regarding their specific experiences.

Two or three-way wasn't really my point, but I look forward to seeing your progress

You might also look at Wayne Parham's 4Pi built with the 2226. It pressurizes a room nicely. For extra bass, add sub(s) to taste.

It's a great driver and I'm looking to build another set because...slam.

The JBL 4647a is very intertesting box, do you know the dimensions (diameter and lenght) of the four bass reflex pipes? Can I reduct to two pipes with double dimension?
    Thanks

    Hi Audiophile,

The info I have from JBL is for 4647 (no A). That one has 3" inside dia. vents and they are 6" long. Now you have to figure if the "A" version is the same. Maybe it is?

Have to go. Back later for the other question.

    Hi Audiophile,

RE "Can I reduct to two pipes..."

    The area of each 3" vent is 7.07 sq.in. X 4 vents = 28.27 sq.in. total.

Divided by two = 14.14 sq.in. per larger vent, and when converted to equivalent vent dia. = 4.24" per larger vent.

So yes two larger vents can be equivalent in area to four smaller ones. Btw a 28.27 sq.in. vent is equivalent to a single 6" vent. These are all vent inside diameter.

The lenght of the larger vent(s) used remains the same as for the smaller one(s): 6" long in this example. I'm not sure if you can find 4.24" (or 4 1/4") dia. vents in stores, haven't checked. If you're out of luck you may use one 6" vent if available. Regards,

    Richard
