    New Drivers Better...?

    Hi all,

I am needing some advice regarding the 2" Compression Drivers, eg. 2450, 2445, 2440/1 in particular.

Is the 2450 a "better driver" than the 2440 because it is much more "up-to-date" in "Sound Quality"

than the 2440 say, in the 4350 or as a replacement in 'any' of the Studio Monitor 4 - Ways?

I do have some 2440's but have a chance to get some 2450's at a good price. Will they be "that" much better???

Many Thanks for your input and Help!

    Hello DogBox

The biggest differences are either the diaphragm material changes of aluminium vs. Ti.

If the diaphragm is coated with aguaplas and last but not least the phase plug changes.

Then there are the basic motor changes from Alnico, ferrite to Neo.

Not sure about the impact of the motor changes. With the diaphragms coated sounds smoother and cleaner to me at least. Phase plug?? In theory the coherent wave phase plug is better but how audible are the differences??

I am a huge fan of buying new drivers... used drivers almost never measure up to spec. That said, the 2450 uses an uncoated Ti diaphragm. JBL switched from aluminum to titanium for durability in pro audio applications.

Unfortunately in critical monitoring applications, most people feel that Ti diaphragms do not sound as good as aluminum diaphragms.

I think 375 is the most successful driver JBL ever made!(not one of),that's why they are so expensive in second-hand market,if you do care DATA,2450 with Be diaphragm will no disappoint you
