    Recommendations to replace JBL L-50

    Hello all -

I am undergoing an overhaul of my audio setup, and recently replaced a Yamaha CA-1000 with a Yamaha A-S2000. The amp is paired with a set of JBL L-50s. I’m sure speaker technology has improved somewhat in the last 40 years, and I’m interested in entertaining something in the JBL camp that would pair well with the new Yamaha.

The setup is audio-only (2.0 stereo preferred). Music style is primarily early 70s prog/rock, so think Genesis, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, early Journey, Wishbone Ash, Gentle Giant, Pink Floyd, etc. Clarity is important to me; proper separation of sounds (not muddy sounding), solid but not overwhelming bass. I like to be able to listen to the music as it was intended to be heard by the the band, and not manipulated by the system.

Anyway, I appreciate any and all feedback, and understand that everything is subjective when it comes to these sorts of things. Budget is under $2,000 USD if at all possible. Would love to keep it JBL if it makes sense.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

    Cool

Vintage & classic? L96 or 4313B =) I myself enjoy my 4313B and classic rock (even Black Metal). Tight and accurate jaw-dropping bass (for such a tiny box, it's all relative).
And if you don't like them you can re-sale easily.

Not opposed to something used, but looking for turn-key and not a project

    Thanks for the recommendations!

Greetings Buster from the wind swept shores of Hood Canal.

Well your on your own really. We can recommend stuff and you may not care for it. Ex., You may like the L65 and find the 4410 dull and lifeless. I on the other hand don't care for the L65, and find the 4410 as close to perfection as I can get, at least with the money I have. ( I really lust for 3 LSR 6332's. WAF score of -2.3 so that will not be happening soon )

I've never heard the L50. Is it as forward as the L 36, or L100? You may like that, and will not be happy with anything else.

So it's really a matter of taste. Your taste.

    Have fun
