They use different crossover points. The L46 sounds much better. I might still have a pair of L46 XOs in a box around here somewhere.
    Anyway, spec sheets:

3000 is really as low as you want to go with the 034. 3500 is better. The L56 is at 2200.

8" is really the sweet spot for a 2-way. 10" woofers can't fill in the hole at the upper midrange as well, and the 034 certainly can't.
I did find the XO's, PM me if you want them.

Building L46 Clone, what is the crossover point forJBL L56 and L46

hello,to update based on my cabinet size and finding some 4401 xovers with adjustable tweeter output(which made all the difference) I hooked up everything and auditioned the speakers with various music while building grill frames to replace the cardboard that was holding some beautiful auburn cloth,i shutter to think of the time wasted on this project. Rd Grimes was right on about the 8" driver with the jbl 34 tweeter, really the only way to go.my tweeters have new diaphrams and after a couple hours really sounded dreamy but the woofers would get muddy,so I ordered new caps and resistors to rebuild xovers, project may never end.
