Dust cap on le5-12 (l112) push in flat

I just noticed the dust cap on one of the mid (LE5-12) in one of my JBL L112s is pretty much flat. I purchased this set of JBL L112s in 1981 and to this day have been nothing short of extraordinary in all respects! Is this an indication of a serious problem? Is the LE5-12 in need of service?Name: 3HPYxDyzQYuY+c9lHZWQEg.jpg

Not necessarily a problem with the speakers, but likely a problem with kids/grandchildren/nephews.

It's just a smooshed dustcap. It’s visually disturbing, but not something that is in immediate danger of worsening. The caps themselves can be a pain to find. I doubt (unless something underlying is loose) that music would be affected... might measure or hear a difference using test tones.

    Hi Newyorker,

I have some ideas for you on the issue. I'll be back tomorrow with this as I'm busy now. Regards,

    Richard

EDIT: Have decided to put this on hold for the time being, now that a better idea surfaced from Odd. Mine is a long shot, though not impossible, but would require time that I don't really have now to explain with details in writing. Don't want to keep you waiting after me for a long shot since a better solution is now on the table...

How do you get the old one off without tearing the cone?

Use an Xacto knife and carefully cut along the edge just above the speaker cone.

I did something like that when refurbing the mids in my L212s ...
    - subwoof (Mike) recommended I cut carefully around the edge of the center dome, and use a very light touch.
I carefully laid a thin bead of surround glue to glue it back into place afterwards.

OK thanks makes sense to leave the edge there. Those cones are really fragile!
