    2206 How to solder

One of my speakers fell down and damage the 2206 woffer.
One connection under the glue had gone off. (See picture)
I got so much glue off that I could get some metal foil free.
But it seems impossible to solve it again.

I have 5-6mm foil that I have been able to clean with a scalpel so it looks OK, but It is impossible to get the solder to "float out".

What could be the type of metal in the foil? Is it aluminum?

    /Henrik

The 2206s do have aluminum ribbon voice coils. That could be the end of your 2206. New ones are still available in the US for $300 US dollars. I don't have a clue what solder alloy you could use to solder aluminum to copper.

    Hi EE99,

As I have remembered VC of 2206 is made of "copper-clad aluminum wire"

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copper...aluminium_wire

so it has to be thin copper layer over aluminum. Copper can be soldered without any problem, so I would suggest to remove (about 5mm in length ) of glue with hot air blower, or may be with the soldering iron with the solder alloy on it. Using mechanical tools can remove thin copper layer from the wire and its soldering can be a problem. May be a kind of "liquid metal" repair kit such as:
    https://www.halfords.com/motoring/pa...-heater-repair
    or
Loctite 3863 Rear Window Defogger Repair Kit
Permatex 09117 Rear Window Defogger Repair Kit

Permatex Electrically Conductive Tab Adhesive 21351 Repair Window Defogger

I managed to get some kind of solder in place using a lot of heat.

It works but I donīt trust it..
I have some extra 2206 so I will relace and keep this one as emergency spare.

I also noticed that one 2242 was burned the same night that the top speaker fell down.
    We must have had fun
