Hi,

My buddy has finally decided to retrieve his cherished loudspeakers from the attic. He has even been out and bought a new streaming amplifier to drive them.

He bought them as a young man whilst living in L.A. Decades later he is no longer so young, and now lives in the U.K.

Trouble is, they are well and truly ‘shot’. Cosmetically they as ‘as new’, but the bass driver surrounds have totally perished. Not sure of the state of the dome tweeters but I am not optimistic.

The labels on the back says they are Axiom TLB-1s and were made in California. I presume TLB stands for transmission line bass as they are medium sized floor-standers with what seems to be a folded ‘line’ which vents at the top of the back of the cab. The aforementioned labels claim bass down to 35Hz.

Does anyone know anything about this model? Were they well regarded when new? Are any suitable replacement drivers available? Are they worth trying to restore, or are they fit only for the dumpster?

Any information gratefully received.

Jim.
