    Pluses and minuses

    Hi all,

I'm new to the gang and I am very happy to be part of it. I am currently trying to purchase a pair of JBL Aquarius IV S109 speakers from around 1970. They are in great shape but I have not heard them. I would love if someone could give me some insight as to how they will perform. I will be running them on a Crown SL2 power amp with a POWERLINE3 pre-amp. I am a huge lover of blues music, will I like these things!

    Thanks All!

The background on that system is best described here:

If you find the lows somewhat deficient in those Aquarius speakers, something like this S1 might be a nice, similar addition: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...744927018&rd=1John

Hey Kedwards... welcome and all that!

YOU MUST LISTEN TO THOSE SPEAKERS PRIOR TO PAYING FOR THEM. They more than any JBL have an unusual acoustic quality. They may be just the ticket for you, but realize they are not able to play at the frequency extremes or to play nearly as loudly as other JBLs. (Of course most JBLs will inflict hearing impairment prior to damage.)

They are very cool looking and were designed specifically for Quad where the sonic requirements were a bit different from traditional stereo. Used in groups of four in a smallish room they do really work pretty well in a room full of diffuse sound sort of way.
