    New components for Vintage Enclosure

My nephew will build for him a replica of the JBL C31 wooden enclosures (two 130B woofers, one 175H driver and an N1200 crossover) and will mount modern JBL components in it and we have 3 key questions and will thank immensely any light you can shed on it! The components we are considering to use are:

    • ONE JBL DRIVER 2446 (H for 8 ohms, J for 16 ohms), Throat diameter 49mm, Frequency range 500Hz to 20 kHz, Recommended Crossover 500Hz or higher, 12 dB/octave minimum
    • TWO JBL 15” WOOFERS 2226 (H for 8 ohms, J for 16 ohms), Frequency range 30Hz to 2.5 kHz, Highest recommended Crossover 1200Hz

    And we have 03 questions

    • The Driver and the two woofers should be 16 ohms and be wired in “series” so the two of them maintain the 16 ohms impendance, right?
    • Which JBL crossover network to use with this kit?
    • Is this JBL Driver and Woofer selection a good choice for the C31?
Thanks for comments and inputs !

Couldn't find the info anywhere and since it is a corner horn (triangular shape) with internal curved wooden walls I have no clue on how to calculate. From a few references of other enclosures my best guess is that the chamber for the woofers might be around 15 to 20 Liters. I am attaching three images from the plans for building them - although they're simplified plans one can have a pretty good idea of the shape and sizes. Thank you for your interest ! Looking forward to listening to comments and tips.

Hi Carlos, for the new components you listed. 2- 2226J wired in parallel to make a 8 ohm load and 1 2446J. Crossover 3115A 500hz also has high freq. boast. Rated for 300 watts. If you want higher power the big box crossover 3160 also 500 hz and has boast. The woofers for this would be 2-2226H parallel wired as the low end is 4 ohms on this xover. I do not know what your budget is but the legacy horns can get very costly. Maybe a 2382 horn on top coverage 120H x 40V. Hope this helps

Many tks jbl4ever !!! Will have to study some of the points - doubts... if I understood correctly:
    - Xover 3115A matches amps up to 300W RMS and connects LoFreqs in 8ohms and HiFreqs in 16ohms
    - Xover 3160 matches amps beyond 300W RMS and connects LoFreqs in 4ohms (and HiFreqs in 16ohms?)
    - As to horn we were considering something like the 537 (originally used for 375 horn in Hartsfields) since it fits in the internal chamber for the C31 driver
Once again many tks for taking the time, complementary comments will be most welcomed !

CORRECTION - Hartsfield lenses were actually the 5090, the JBL 537 Horn is a vintage small+short horn that fits the 2" throats w/ 4 screws
