    Crossover help JBL 3106 / N8000

I have a pair of JBL 3106 crossovers that I would like to use if it makes sense. I saw these great graphs in the forum http://www.audioheritage.org/vbullet...=3051#post3051 for the 3105 and 3106 crossovers with 8 and 16 ohm speakers. I want to crossover over a 2405H to a 2441/2311 with this crossover if possible. The 2441 has 2445J (16 ohm) diaphragms in them. So I have the situation where one is an 8 ohm driver and the other is a 16 ohm driver. From the graphs I would have a substantial dip at about 7.5khz because of the impedance differences. My question is : a) should I use this as is and use equalization to reduce the dip or b) would someone know how to modify the circuit to accommodate change the larger rolloff of the 8 ohm 2405?

I would greatly appreciate help on this issue and thank you for the advice.

    Regards,
    Gary

If your 2405Hs have JBL diaphragms they are really closer to 16 ohms. JBL changed their nominal rating and the foilcal labels over the years but the impedance of the 077/2405 never changed.

If your drivers are factory spec and if your crossovers are still within spec they will work as well as they ever have… Meaning there are newer and better crossovers that will do a possibly better job, but if you want vintage you should be fine.

    Mr. Widget,

Thank you for the advice. When I purchased the 2405's I made sure they had JBL diaphragms. They measure about 7 ohms with a fluke meter. I have no attachment to using the 3106. What crossover do you suggest I use? I know there is the Nelson Pass design. Do you think that would work with a 16 ohm 2441 (w 2445J diaphragm) and a 2405H.

Thanks for the response. I've taken a look at the Pass L300 crossover and will copy that with the passive resistor ladder or Pad for the 2441 and 2405 crossover.

    Thanks
    Gary
