JBL 53-5333 crossover cards any good ?

I received a pair of JBL 53-5333 active crossover cards for the 5235. They came with resistor networks for 120Hz, 500Hz and 800Hz and 24db slope. Lowpass delay is selectable 350us and 700us. Is there any advantage over the passive cards with 12db and 18db slope ? I plan to use these to biamp my 4333.

I'm always amazed at what turns up here ( from time-2-time ) for those crossovers.

I'll go out on a limb and suggest that the mid-80's adoption of the THX standard triggered the market for those cards.

As far as using them ?

Sure, I'd certainly give them a try out / especially if either of those woofer delay settings comes close to time-aligning your horn/woofer crossover point.

Yes I will give them a try. All information I have is a schematic and instructions how to change crossover frequencies and delay. Does anybody know what kind of 24db filter is used ? Linkwitz Riley or Butterworth ? I have no equipment to measure.

When the 4333a is switched to biamp using the stock switch the high pass and the woofer conjugate stay in play. The factory suggestion is to use a 12dB low pass only active crossover. In my experience with that speaker and others using 5235, Bryston 10b or UREI 525 crossovers I found a clear preference sonically for passive high pass.

Yes, I want to keep the highpass passive and only want to drive the lowpass active via the 5235. Maybe there is an advantage by trying the delay and the dip switches for low end boost.
