    JBL E120 Re-Cone for Hi-Fi Use?

So I have a pair of E120 frames and would like to use them for a custom build speaker pair for my home hi-fi system. Does the E120 share the same frame as other JBL woofers?

If so, are there any re-cone kits available for this conversion? After-market kits would be fine.

    Thanks in advance.

"E" motors have more magnet than say a 2204 does.

E120's make stellar high efficiency midrange drivers, clean, clear and loud. LF woofers they aren't.

What is your intended use for them?

    Barry.

    Hi,

May be some AF (as VC to cone adjustment would be necessary ) recone kit for 2206, with some adding about 20~30gr on the cone would mimic 2206 characteristics as BL factor would rise about 22% ( for the 2202 top plate thickness is 0.29" and B=1.35T while on the 2206 tp=0.32" and B=1T so equivalent BL=(1.35/1)*(0.29/0.32)=1.22 )

    regards

Thanks guys, it sounds like I may be in over my head.

These baskets were freebies so I thought I would try my hand at re-coning them for my own personal use. I realize they are mids but was thinking of turning them into woofers for use in a pair of custom bass reflex cabinets for home audio use. Those monster magnets seem like they would be right at home driven by a low powered tube amp.

They could surely be made into woofers with the right componenets.

A 2204 kit will go into them but the stronger magnet will damp the LF a bit and give a small midrange boost.

I think there is a real woofer cone kit that properly fits the 2204 basket that would go into the E120 basket. The 2206 kit will not.

    Barry.

    Hi Barry,

May be even 2203H recone kit would be better solution as Vas is much larger then 2204H, so Fs would be lower, while BL would be about 12% larger.
I believe that VC for 2203 is made from copper (length 15mm) not aluminum as 2206 (VC length 19mm, form length 2.125") wire, but Xmax is about 5mm (only), Better would be to be used VC for 2235 driver as it is made of copper wire and the VC length is about 19mm while the VC form factor 1.25" is the same as 2203H, so may be, can be arranged with the distributor to get 2203H cone with foam suspension and spider, while and VC from 2235H kit.

yes, this was a great thread imho, great information.
i think the e120 frame is the same at the K120 but i would
need a senior member to verify it.
