    Jbl L46

I have a pair of L46's and was wondering what anybody thinks about them. I think they have 118H woofers and TI 033 tweeters, but I don't know for sure. Any help from someone? The jury is still out on what I think about the sound. At times they sound good and at other times I think the tweeters come flying out at you. The woofers are coated kind of like the LE14A's are.

    Thanks, Kenny

Thanks for the reply. I thought the A was for alnico, and I'm pretty sure I have the ceramic. I knew that the tweeter was a variant of the LE20 series. That is nice information. Now if somebody had a opinion on the sound of these. On most materal they sound good. I am running them on a 15 watt tube push pull amp. Tried them on a 6 watt single ended but they needed more power, as I understand they are 88 db sensitive. I'm using JBL LE14A's crossed over at 40 hz for subs. Not too bad a sound. That's this week, who knows next week, maybe back to the Altec 902 8T's on 811's or 511b's horns on top with JBL M151 lower mid upper woofers. Isn't this a blast playing with JBL's and Altecs!

Not quite as big a blast as playing with dynamite, but quite fun nonetheless

    Here's a little chart

That's a cool chart. I didn't know that the L19 used an alnico magnet. I knew that the 4301 did. I haven't looked, but mine must be L19A's. I had the woofers re-done and I know they are ceramic. Thanks for the info.

The 034 uses a 1" phenolic resin impregnated linen diaphragm coated with an ultra thin layer of aluminum via vapor deposition driven by a 1" copper voice coil suspended in a 1-1/2 pound magnetic assembly generating 14,000 gauss.

Recently on eBay a seller stated that the silver paint was flaking off a pair of 066's but that the sound wouldn't be affected.

Rubbish! The "silver paint" flaking off is the vapor deposited aluminum coating and the sound will indeed be affected.
