    Datation of Altec 417-8h ?

    Hi,

    just wanna know when this speaker was first introduced on the market, especially on the musical instrument market (= when fender begin ton used them).

    I doubt that anyone truly knows the answer down to the exact year, but the 417-8H is part of the high powered "H" series that seems to have been released in the very early 1970's.

    The original "H" & "H II" series both co-existed with the 417-8C & 417-8D ( according to the catalogs found on this site ) .

    The differences are in the coil-formers ( bobbin ) and the voice-coil wire types .

    Coil & Former material differences will certainly effect the "sound" and power handling that one will get from these 12" speakers ( especially when run under stress & duress ) .
