Hello im brian from southern indiana. Im a long time fan of altecs and horn speakers. Heard model 19s as a kid hooked from then on. Wanting to build some altec 2 ways using altec and gpa parts and pieces. I have just grabbed some 511b horns. Was wanting a 19 clone so I may have to get some 811s. Im wanting to get my learn on and while I've been listening to music for 40 years on some decent gear this would be a first trying to get some speakers together so please help the slow kid when I hit you with questions!:} Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the forum!

For me I would use the 511's over the 811's. When I had my DIY Altec's I had them crossed over at 800hz and used a form of the Altec 30904 attenuator.

Now I'd probably look into the Z19 Crossover found here http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.p...ssover.328530/ .

Here is the link to the Attenuator I was using:

Good luck and keep us posted,
    Scott

Thanks for the info! I was wondering about the size of the 511 vrs the 811 and if a good way to make things little easier would be mount the horn on top of the cab like a CathedralSpeaker.

Im just starting to get things together and the crossover is what I'm most worried about as far as getting it right. So thanks for the tip above!

Picked up two 811B horns also. Not here yet but should work out. Will have a choice that way.

Even if I was going with a Model 19 "clone".
