    Bridging Crown PS-400's

Still looking for an affordable solution to throwing some serious wattage at my L220's and L65A's. I know bridging anything isn't always the preferred method but doubling .001 distortion doesn't seem too bad. That's a lot cheaper to do than going all in for some Bryston 7B monoblocks. Is there any sonic benefit to going nuts with the power? I'm running a bridged PS-400 on my B380 that compliments my system and it's great. I ran it on my L150's full range but relegated it to sub duty when I scored the 380 and 220's. Loved the highs though. Will the bridged 400 compete with a Bryston?

I ran a pair of PS-200s bridged on 250Tis for a while, thought they worked fine. So not quite the same bog of cats, but similar. No experience with them compared to Bryston.

Thanks for the reply. I believe the 200's are 345 watts bridged. That is probably plenty for the LE14. Nice to know someone ran a bridged Crown on some Ti's with decent results.

After years of hearing how power-hungry the 250ti is—and Mark's issues with the house-where-bass-goes-to-die (which appears to have been room acoustics after all)—I acquired a Crown Studio-Reference-II to power my 250tis, once I have the space to run them. As it is now, my bi-amped 4345s work just fine with a PS-400 in stereo for the 2245s and a stereo PS-200 for the rest. I never feel the need for more power, though I do have several spare PS-400s I could deploy.

Before I had the PS-400s, I asked Crown if bridging a D150A-II would be the equivalent of using one DC300A-II. They suggested just getting the DC300A-II which wasn't really that much more expensive on the used market than another D150A-II. That's what I did, until I got the PS-200 and PS-400. Now the older D-series amps just sit, unused, in a rack of former favorites. Sigh!
". . . as you have no doubt noticed, no one told the 4345 that it can't work correctly so it does anyway."—Greg Timbers

Bridging the ps-400's will be a Large improvement in power out.
When I had the 4350's I had a Dc300A running the lows and clipped it regularly. When I bridged 2 Dc300's never even flickered the IOC's.

Will I see any sonic improvement with the added headroom? I'm also debating going more bourgeois and making the leap to a Bryston 7B or 4B. Will the L220's sound better with 500 watts vs 250?

I just added (2) mint condition Crown PS400's in bridged-mono to my system to run my L112's. WOW! Completely opened them up and they sound fantastic!
