Thank you Barry. As a relatively new forum member I have yet to figure out who screams the loudest and should be ignored. As a member of several other forums I have seen this kind of behavior before.

First, Bill. Welcome to the forum. I don't know where you saw "that kind of behavior" in Tony's comment. His reply was well in line with the question and I personally understand his points. I am in the school of "akward question calls for an akward reply". ;-)

As for JBL being more "recognized" than Altec, the reason is simple. Altec got its credentials from the past, while JBL is still very active and keeps on innovating.

That works better in face to face conversations or when talking with people you know really well. In emails, texts, and more so on public forums like this… it really is best to cut people a lot of slack because often it is just too easy to misunderstand someone's intent.

I for one would really like to know what it is about vintage Altec Lansing speakers that many, many people find so engaging. I have had JBL, Altec, and Klipsch speakers… and I like things about all of them. I'm personally most enamored by the latest high end JBLs, but that is just my opinion and I don't think you can make a fair comparison between a JBL Everest 2 and an Altec Model 19 as they were developed decades apart.

    Welcome Bill!
Like most forums, many of us read most threads and only reply in a very few!
I personally have not owned larger Altec speakers, but I have owned a number of JBL speakers over the years.
The good Altecs are much harder to find here in the DC market ...
(I suspect its mostly because they are older and rarer, no judgement implied).

Well, a company is selling lightbulbs with tiny JBL speakers built in!
    Here's the link.

    https://www.sengled.com.au/shop/pulse-solo/

It was only a matter of time.

Now, if they had Alexa or Google assistant built in, or at least were Z-wave based, they'd have a winner!
