    2241H's for Woofers in a 2 Way

So, as things often go, I bought a pair of these monstrous 18's because they were available. Now I need to figure out what to do with them.

I'm thinking of a 2 way HiFi system with the 2241H's handing off to Radian 475PB's around 700 Hz. I see enclosure volume listed as "5-12" CF, which is a pretty wide range. Could anyone suggest a an enclosure size and port tuning that would allow me to get much of the goodness out of these drivers, while not blowing WAF? Thanks for any input and or experience.

    Opinions...

An 18" driver doesn't lend itself well to a HiFi 2-way -or- WAF

I'd go 9ft3 at 35Hz (three 4" dia ports or two 6" ports)

Try WinISD, then you can see how compromises can be pushed around:

A bird in the hand and all that aside, I'd sell off the 2241s or save them for another project and find a good or great 12"-15" woofer for your 2-ways. The boxes will be smaller and if you pick the right woofers the bass extension will be greater and your transition to the HF will easily be better.

    There you have it
How to say almost the exact same thing without sounding like it at all.

If you went big (further away from any reasonable WAF) with the horn,
there's at least one advocate for your idea here (like 300-350Hz big).

But sure, you'd be likely to pull off something like a 4430 or newer (~5ft3 size)
with excellent results. Getting a nice horn and crossover design is the trick.

I suspect that the 2241 is in the same family as the 2226 ands requires a lot of processing in the two bottom octaves to sound good at home. Can the 2241 sound good up to 500/600Hz? if so, then you can have a big horn sit on the top of your cabinet. JBL 2360 (definitely not WAF compliant). Yuichi 290. TH-4001.

Could use cheap JBL 2380a horns. They load down to 500Hz

Why not? But definitely still big not WAF compliant.

Perhaps a smaller 5cft bass cab will do better with wifey.
JBL 2235 and horm on top? Something like this configuration. Make it narrow but deep.

BTW Spring is coming in and am about to build a 10cft cab for a JBL 2240 and my JBL 2360 on top. I expect to keep it two ways.

I have a pair of 2235H's on deck for this project, I guess I'll go back to those. I had 18" stars in my eyes
