Triangular sub boxes for cornerplacement loaded with 2242. A bad idea?

I'm on a quest to free some space in my listening room and thats why I've started to look at alternatives to my twin 2x18" refigerator sized subs I'm using today. If possible, I'd like to keep the drivers and only build other cabinets.
One alternative that crossed my mind is to build triangular shaped boxes that fit in the corners with the drivers facing towards the middle of the room. Searching the net for corner loaded subs, I've come across both positive and negative feedback.
Any one of you out there who tested this and has some advice?

    BR Jakob
