    L36 vs. L110 in Vintage Quadraphonic System?

    Hi Everyone --

    im new to this forum and JBL in general so apologies in advance if I miss specific ettiqute for this site

    I have no experience with either speaker but have an opportunity to buy either 4x L36 or 4 X L110 for a vintage quad application (using a Marantz 4140 integrated as the front end) here's the kicker;

    The whole system is going into a small 120ft2 space (the whole reasons I was considering JBL because of the near-field effect).

    Anyway, hope all that made sense, what do you think would be better in that application?

    for background, I have a pair of Klipsch Quartets in there now with my Carver MX-130 and anything above 10 o'clock with the efficient Klipsch almost overwhelms the space, so getting a second pair of Quartets was not really doable in that space 😞

    Thanks in advance for any advice / feedback.

    Well, you've already blown it. You were polite.

    Welcome to the Lansing Heritage Forum. Interesting project. I'd suggest you go with the 110s, they are much better speakers.

    No question, between the two speakers you mention, the L110 is the best choice.

    And welcome, but I'm more curious as to the intent of the Quad system than your speaker choice. Care to elaborate?

    In two-channel mode you'll have around 70-WPC. in four-channel around 24, from my quick search. Should work fine. Do you have a lot of 4-channel material you like to play? What's the experience like? As I recall, my B&O 4002 turntable came with 4-channel capability, to the best of my memory, but I never utilized it.
    ". . . as you have no doubt noticed, no one told the 4345 that it can't work correctly so it does anyway."—Greg Timbers

    The L110 is much superior, but either would be overpowering using 4 in a 10x12 foot room.

    You mention a space of 120 cu ft. and I wonder if that is an enclosed space? You may be forced to place the speakers up against the wall, and perhaps in corners. The L110 will tend to get boomy up against boundaries. Boomy-times-four may be overwhelming. Haven't hear the L36 to comment on those systems.

    120 cu ft. would be smaller than a 5x5x5 box.

    think you meant sq. ft.
