which one to choose, brand new and excellent?

    Hi friends,

I'd like to ask for your opinion on the selection out of the two quality modern tube preamps.
Now, the price difference between the new and the excellent is around $200.
If you were me, which would you choose?

A: brand new, unopened in box
B: excellent condition, cosmetically & functionally

If you focus on the price factor, B would be the preferred choice.
Any other factors to consider, except for the price?

Thanks much for your wise counsel, as always.

Do they both come with full warranty?

Has the open box unit been used for hundreds of hours?

What is the price differential? $800 vs. $1000 or $2800 vs. $3000? In the first case assuming full warranty and close to zero hours on it, I'd save the $200. In the second case, probably not.

    Thanks for your nice comments.
Actually I've just found out these two preamps in question, PrimaLuna, don't have any phono input like other modern tube preamps.
As a vinyl lover, I have decided not to buy one this time.

Good catch! Some preamps and AVRs even have inputs labeled "Phono" but all they are is another line level input meant to be used with an outboard phono stage.

If they did it would be MM only and you would probably want a MC Anyway ?
