    1400Nd woofer

I have run across a pair of woofers described as "1400Nd". From what I can tell they are 14" neodymium speakers.

I have done searches on Google and here and I am not finding anything. Can any give me more info?

I am especially interested to know what JBL speakers they were used in, T/S parameters and what they would be worth if they are in excellent condition and freshly, professionally reconed.

    Thanks!!!!!

    Steve

I did some more searching and found that they were used in the S7500 K2 and the S9500 K2.

I also found the T/S parameters, or at least some of them.

Supplied by Greg Timbers at JBL:

    Fs - 24 Hz
    Vas - 7.5 cubic feet
    Qts - .22
    Qes - ..23
    Qms - 8.8
    Re - 4.6 ohms

The 1400ND is maybe 300 W, primarily displacement limited. It shows
a No of 1.3%. Due to the extremely strange gap geometry, it has a much
larger difference between DCR and minimum impedance than typical
drivers, so that the actual measured response is below the predicted
sensitivity. Expect around 92 dB, midband for 2.83 V.

That link probably has all the published TS info, short of measuring one yourself.

No clue. I'd be surprised if recone kits were available, so I'm not sure I'd invest much in a pair unless they were really pristine.

    Pairs

Every speaker JBL used that woofer in had two of them except the S7500. That speaker was presented as a small room option for the Japanese market and/or a lower cost entry into an upgrade path completing an S9500 by adding the upper bass module at a later date. I personally experimented briefly with single 1400nd's and confirmed that this woofer really only works well in pairs. If you decide to go with two pairs the suggested build would be the M9500 using the staggered bass tuning to give that 'banana' curve which works so well with room gain and reaches down into the upper twenties.

Very fine woofers, but as Jeff points out, cone kits are a question. In the last parts list I saw it was listed as factory service only in the US. Guido in Europe seems to be able to get them and Asia is better too, I think.
