I have recently been intrigued by the concept "double bass array" a.k.a "CABS":

Pretty cool idea!
Anyone ever heard this concept implemented?
BTW, the author of the thesis, Adrian Celestinos, is working for Samsung in the lab in LA.
The quick-and-dirty summary of the concept (very very very summarized):
4 subwoofers are placed 1/4 from every boundary on the front wall. Thus, only the roomresonance of the lenght of the room remains. Then the same setup is placed on the back-wall, playing out of phase, delayed with the time of flight for the lenght of the room, so the sound from the front array is cancelled exactly when it hits the back wall. It is like the room has no back wall!
