Thread: 2122H Questions

Yes, these threads do get O.T. don't they. I haven't heard the Altecs yet, High Fidelity, probably not, but from an historical standpoint, they would be cool to have. I'm betting Altec made very few of them considering their timeline and the subsequent ownership by Gulton, Mark IV, EVI, and Telex.Since my neighbor is not a HiFi sort of guy and probably got them for nothing, I bet I can get them for a couple hundred bucks. He's happy and I got a pair of unique Altecs, Win/Win.

    So

What really is a 2122H ? Is it a 2123h with a high compliance surround, weighted down to match the mid efficiency 2235H woofer family ? Does it have a different coil ? Is there a mass ring involved ? Is the cone aquaplassed ? Should I be building one out of spare parts ?

Okay I'll shutup now and enjoy what I have .

    Thanks !!!

    regards <. Earl K
2122 is "under-hung" coil while 2123 is "over-hung" coil. The differences are explained in
"Technical Notes Volume 1, Number 3. - Choosing JBL Low-Frequency Transducers". Off-course suspensions are different....

I thought the reason these threads remain open and live is so information can be added over time rather than beginning another thread.
If we knew what the hell we were doing, we wouldn't call it research would we.

They certainly can I was just pointing how old the thread was. I have seen several responses where the new poster didn't realize how old the previous post was. After 8 years the original parties may not be hear to answer.

And of couuse we have this thread:

    back from the dead.

Must be the time zone issue. that guy has posted on MANY old threads in the last year.

This site should make posting on any old thread an author/permission type...

after 7 years I wouldn't want to see this stuff resurfacing...

    anyways.

I think it just reflects what he is interested in and working on at the moment. There are way worse things that can be done to a thread!

I like the zombie threads, I never knew Widget lived in a warehouse!

I live in a warehouse in a very urban area. I usually don't miss the tree lined neighborhood type thing as it reminds me of the days when the neighbors would complain about "the noise" ... it was only music. Some how though, the thought of having a warm summer day and a lawn to mow listening to Otis... just sounds great!

    Yes it is old.

I have travelled l to the USA 3 times since.

The 2122 and the 2123 are both nice drivers.

If you search the forums there are a number of threads on their correct application.

One thing about the 2122 is it has a foam surround, the 2123 does not.

yes, that is the reason, to get as much as possible information of interest on easier way. Here for the "new comer to Audio-heritage", as me, the oldness of the thread is of less importance then the information in the thread, especially for the JBL, Altec etc drivers that are out of production for decades (for example as 2122, and soon I expect that its re-kone kit C8R2122 would be out of production too).
May be some real objective information about the technical and acoustical experience between "under-hung" and "over-hung" drivers would be useful for most of DIY members.

    Sorry for disruption others.
