    Temporary stand-in for 2235H in 4430

    Hey folks,

what would be a good, albeit temporary replacement for the 2235h's in a 4430 ? I don't really want to 'park' my project untill some suitable 2235's turn up. Should I go for 2226 or something else(RCF, Celestion, you name it)? I'm toying with the idea of reconing some 2225's which can be found reasonably cheap, but it would add to my already impressive workload.

It would be great if I could find something that already has European distribution channels.

2226H maybe? You can get them really cheap over here, around $130 US is typical. Churches over here use (and don't abuse) them.

I don't think the 2226 is a suitable substitute. The 2216Nd or 2216Nd-1 are both significant upgrades over the 2235H and would likely be able to take over the LF duties quite well.

True enough, but definitely more of a permanent substitute IMO.
    DIY Array, 2242 sub, 4408, 4208, Control 8SR, E120 Guitar cab, Control 1, LSR305.

Agreed, but if you're dealt lemons, make lemonade.

Unless I missed something, what is wrong with your current 2235? If it's only the foam suspension that has dried up, then contact Rick Cobb for replacements.
I wouldn't go with 2226s as they are very, very different from the 2235s. 2225s are a bit closer but still different. If you have no suitable 2235 to work from, then find 2225 baskets (100% similar to the 2235 basket except fo the rear foilcal) and recone them with 2235 JBL kits.

What you missed is that it is for a project I am building (or trying to) and I find DO NOT HAVE any 2235, broken or otherwise. I find them hard to come by in this neck of the woods, and shipping them over from the US is very expensive.

On the 2216 Nd, I got a hold of the spec. Apart from them being very expensive and even harder to come by than the 2235h, I would respectfully suggest that with its fs, VAS and Qts you would be hard pressed to find a worse substitute for the 2235. I'm not denying it's ability to reproduce music (I've never heard one), but a stand-in for a 2235 it is most definitely not.

Come to think of it, a 2216 is really easy to find a substitute for.

Are you shure the original C8R2235h is still available?
Many dealers don`t seem to list them anymore....

Maybe. Maybe not. Let's contact Speaker Exchange to know.

Otherwise it will be difficult to find four used identical 2235h

If JBL no longer offers original recone kits, then it's the perfect excuse to go with some aftermarket kits. They are cheap anyway, so not a big risk.

Two 2235 is enough in 4430

They are not for sale every day in Europe, but with a little patience you can find them.

This is mostly likely the best alternative to finding a set of original 2235...
Cleaning up a basket properly takes less than an hour (cutting the old cone, removing all the old glue at the spider and suspension, cleaning up the magnet gap with some gummy tape). Fitting a cone kit then takes 15 minutes. That's not much.

In the worst case scenario, we're talking 3 hours in a lifetime.
2225 baskets are plenty and cheap as nobody wants them. Everyone has turned to the 2226 for sound reinforcement these days.

A very nice gentleman from Finland is helping me procure a pair of 2225s to help me along. Finlande, douze points.

I have also purchased a speaker design program called Winspeakerz. It has a magnificent database you can sort through (and amend) to find chassis with comparable specs to the 2235. Problem solved !

Evaluate also e140 basket+magnet, the gap is a bit closer and you'll get a bit more efficiency, but at the end are the same as 2225.

if you need support I've 4 of them at home, always thinking to recone them into 2234h aftermarket kit (with no mass ring like in the 4435).
