    Can a 2123H be reconed into a 2012H, or.........

so I have this project, a pair of custom speakers utilizing 2235H woofers, Altec 811B horns and Radian 475PB compression drivers. Cabinets all drawn up and ready to be handed off to a cabinet maker. But then I thought, "if I'm going to all this trouble, wouldn't it be so much better if I had a midrange driver to handle, say, the 300-1,200 Hz range?" After some reading, it seems like the 2012H 10" midrange would be perfect for the role. Only problem - I can't find any. The question is, if I can find a shop with a couple 2012H recone kits, can these be used on 2123H frames?

No! ( short answer for it won't work ).

Use stock 2123H (or J)'s as your mid-range speaker / they are much easier to come by .

Putting a 2012 cone kit into a 2123 magnetic structure will not result in a bonafide 2012 ( single biggest reason? the top-plates of the magnetic structures are 2 different thicknesses ).

Those Radian 400 series drivers look very impressive. I've been eyeing the 450PB for quite some time as replacements or simply alternatives to my 802Ds. So, I hope you will keep us updated on your progress with this project. Especially interested in your listening impressions of the Radian drivers, along with any graphs and/or pictures as you go along.

What crossovers do you intend to use in the 2-way and 3-way designs?

    OK, thanks Earl

I'll change course and keep an eye out for some clean, un-sunfaded and non-beatdown 2123H's. GD: I bought my Radians based on the positive reviews of others, hope they are as impressive as they say. I'm tempted by the Be diaphragm units, but for double the cost or some such, I couldn't quite pull the trigger.
