the thing is, its pretty rough and frankensteined..

no grills and missing OE woofer

do you guys have any recommendations on how to clean adhesive/glue on the veneer?
I ripped the carpet off and it looks like the veneer is still clean!!!!!!!!!!!!!
but who does that!? carpet on veneer... anyways...
i have lots of work to do...plus im looking for a set of 2214H, im definitely not using the pyle blue

    Great find!

Someone with a lot more wood and veneer know-how should chime in soon. Just don't be in a hurry to try any old solvent.

Can you get a clue as to what kind of adhesive it is? If you've exposed it, is is pliable and gooey and rolls up like boogers? Adding some heat from a hair dryer or heat gun might soften it enough to scrape away easily with a credit card or drywall knife.

At all costs however, avoid water soaking in through the seams. Below the veneer is late 1970's or early 80's MDF.
    I control the treble.
    I control the bass.

thanks, i actually tried acetone, it works but the acetone dries quick, and as soon as it dries it goes back to the sticky stuff..
its not the booger looking glue...stuff is sticky...like a contact cement...

MEK is more powerful than acetone and dries much slower. It will definitely wreck the black paint like paint stripper.

Fingernail polish remover used to made from MEK.

Can you even get MEK in Cal?

    Barry.
If we knew what the hell we were doing, we wouldn't call it research would we.

MEK is no longer sold in certain parts of California (Air Resources board) although I am aware that some towns near the coast might have some at marine outlets. I've found some at my local HazWaste recycling centers (in Orange County) where they allow people to take used materials instead of dumping them.

As for the right solvent, stripper might work, as MEK, and maybe something like the Weurth mentioned or Goo Gone. The main thing is patience, using a suitable scraper when the glue is softened, and a well, well, ventilated area completely free of any ignition source - no working in a garage or enclosed space - very hazardous.

ARMED, you have a really good find there, congrats. You've been Hoovering all the JBL's in the San Diego area!! Did these come with grilles?

You're going to get overwhelmed with all the different JBL projects, not to mention the hits your wallet is going to take.

    I'd do this ...

    Hi Armed ,

I'd use a scraper ,then use acetone to clean up the remaining glue .

$80.00 is a good deal. And you did a great job stripping the cabinets. I wonder if there's any alternative to a 2214h. A woofer you can fit, has a decent sound, and will allow you some time until you find a good set of 2214h...
