Disposing of old financial records. Going through the 1980 box. Found my receipt from MusiCraft in Chicago for my pair of JBL L222 Disco Towers. Paid $1198 for the pair on 6/14. $3462 in today's dollars.
The kicker? They are my normal listening speakers today!

If we knew what the hell we were doing, we wouldn't call it research would we.
So, in today's dollars, you've paid about $100 per year (so far) to own something that gives you great pleasure. I'd say that's a pretty darn good deal!
Unfortunately, when I tell people today that they can get a decent pair of speakers for around $500, they look at my like I'm from another planet. Everyone is used to cheap and disposable. Oh well.
