Apologies for the not so great photos.
The cabinets came up better than expected. I used some stuff called "timber mate" a putty material to sort out the dings in the corners and edges. You chose a colour that matches the raw timber. Sand it back and when you stain the timber the putty matches pretty good. Also discovered you can go pretty aggressive with the electric sander and it takes back a lot of scratches, was concerned about wearing through but didn't happen. Also used some paint stripper to take off the old stain, this came off much easier than other speakers I've done. I re-stained with a darkish teak stain. Then shellac polished. It all actually wasn't too big a job in the end.
Now I didn't clean up the woofers, just replaced them with a spare pair. Will get to cleaning up the old ones soon and will post them.
Also made the stands which are around 8" high and angled back around 5 degrees.
Was a good little project. My friend who I fixed then up for is really liking them. Worth saving.
nice job
I just had some 4311b's ..... they are fun. Especially if you are
coming from the earbud/DAP environment.
My son is 34 and has my old L100's. Says none of his friends have
systems anywhere close to his. They like to come to his place to
hear what quality music sounds like.
