    R.I.P. - Glenn Frey

    http://www.tmz.com/2016/01/18/glenn-...e-eagles-dead/

Glenn Frey, a founding member and guitarist of the Eagles, has died ... TMZ has learned. We're told the cause of death was a combination of complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis, and pneumonia.
Frey had been battling intestinal issues for months and had surgery in November. We're told in the last few days his condition took a turn for the worse. He died in New York City.
Glenn co-wrote and sang on most of the Eagles hits, including "Take It Easy," "Tequila Sunrise," "Lyin' Eyes," and "Heartache Tonight," to name a few. He also co-wrote "Hotel California" and "Desperado" with Don Henley and took home 6 Grammys with the band.

Yes, it is perhaps unfortunate that it would take the death of Mr. Frey to bring the haters out of the closet. I'm all for fair criticism, but at times like this it should be more tactful than the article you linked to.

I think we can all agree that the Eagles were overplayed but that's certainly not the fault of the band.

    Cheers,

    Warren

    Another one gone... Joe Cocker.

Umm, check the date: Cocker died in 2014.

As for Baird's Eagles criticism, I must admit that having never been a fan of the band or of their music, I agree with just about all of it. (Where we part ways is that he makes it clear that he once was a fan of the band; I never was.)

While publishing such a criticism this soon after Frey's passing may be somewhat tactless (although there is something to be said for striking while the iron is hot), anyone familiar with Baird's writings about music in Stereophile over the years cannot argue with his bona fides when it comes to the breadth and depth of his knowledge of music.

I don't think the surviving Eagles care what some fat ass loser with a blog for "Stereophile" thinks, him or his loser followers

Can't count how many times I was lucky enough to get laid thanks to Eagles' albums during the '70s; this lard ass wind bag probably never did (or couldn't) And partied!
If he had, then he might view the cultural significance of their music from, and with, a different perspective

And to answer his dumb as question, can anybody still really listen to Eagles records? Yeah, a whole lot of them, and ALL of their records too, you know it all prick

I do have to admit I always like Henley the most though and for solo listening prefer his solo albums................but NOT for partying and "other", it's definitely the Eagles

"Stereophile" has sucked out loud for decades, EVERY bit of it from it's writers to it's content
So much so, that now you can "subscribe" for almost free (your mailing address and personal information is worth more to them than the shit rag itself)

It has not been anywhere close to being a valid and objective source since it was a digest sized little journal: I still hung in there with them though, up and until their first re-location after Santa Fe and being acquired (again, the first time)

What that boils down to is that I subscribed for a long time when it cost almost $50 bucks a year to do so, now you can easily get a year for $10 and if you are any sort of "professional" for free

    What's that tell ya?

"Hello, my name is Thomas Wagner, and yes, I confess, I too was drawn in and seduced by the flowery horse shit, written by English majors about electronics and audio. It happened because I was too lazy to actually study the subject myself and the words were just so convincing!

I also made some bad purchases because of that mistake and it cost me a right fair amount of money. (after all, back then, it was a very EXPENSIVE magazine, so those writers MUST have known what they were talking about when they waxed eloquent about "chocolaty mids and breathing, sparkling highs" and I wanted IN!)
I am guilty of being a "Stereophool" dumb shit and cult member, but happy to report, that as of today, I have been clean and sober for more than 20+ years now."

I sold off 10 years worth of "Stereophile" to an nice older guy with a bad back and a lot of time on his hands who came to the house to buy a pair of KLHs. He was happy to have them. They were all as new, many unread, gave him the lot for $25 bucks

The point of this long ass post (besides the fact that "Stereophile" sucks and who cares what their current editorial staff OR their readers think) is this:
IF you are like me and made the same mistake that I did AND you also have a bunch of old, good condition copies of the rag in a closet somewhere, DO NOT toss them or give them away. Check out what old copies are realizing on the internet and ePay right now. And we're not talking the little digest sized ones when Holt still ran the show entirely, we're talking copies of that crap rag from within just the past 20 years!

They did make several very useful and decent test and set up discs as well as a few good music recordings in the late '90s before Holt's baby was turned to total pablum for the brain dead.

I quit a couple of years back.. there was some moron called "Dud" who went on & on about shaving brushes and his cat ... and then of course there was the Super Moron ...Mikey (Gods gift to vinyl)

The only regular that I had ANY respect for was J. Atkinson , and that alone was not enough to me to keep suffering the Shill Specialists.

If it were free, think I'd pass.

    Sorry for the derail

    I'll miss you Glenn Frey

Fremer has toned down his assholiness these past few years.
Old age? Just tired? Tired of people telling him he sucks?

Who knows. MUCH more humble and affable since around 2012 or thereabouts (I watch his CES stuff and other "live" appearances and interviews, depending on topic)

I do know he does write a nice column when the subject is something HE enjoys or likes
