4612OK to 2235 transition driver recommendations

Firstly, I am quite uneducated when it comes to all things JBL.
That out of the way...some time ago I was gifted most of the guts from a pair of 4612OK Cabarets. Since these parts practically appeared from nowhere, I sourced out the rest of the bits and now I have all of the parts sans cabinets.
This inspired me to make a music-H/T system based around these fairly well regarded pro speakers. I have been collecting power amps, preamps, an electronic crossover etc.
I was going to go with the 4612 and a sub along with a two way electronic crossover, but am now thinking that it would be great to go all JBL.
I've read that a pair of 2235s would be sweet to team up with these (if I could find some) and make them into B 380s.
However, the 4612's don't go low enough to match them with just 2235s, so I would need a transition driver to create what would be a 3 way system. The 4612OK being the high end, the 2235 being the low and what ever is suggested being the mids.
    So...I'm open for suggestions.

I'd think the 4612 could go low enough to meet up with a 2235. JBL claims 60Hz on the bottom, even if you crossed them over at 100Hz that should be no problem for the 2235 to reach.

The 2235 is run all the way up to 1000Hz in the 4430 studio monitors. Maybe you could build single three-way cabs with the 15", 8" and the tweeter.

Good luck and keep us posted.

    OK, thanks guys.
I guess if I were to be lucky enough to come across a pair of 2245's I would need a transition driver.

JBL runs the 2245 up to 290Hz in the 4345, FWIW.

I've read that the 4612OK is very weak in the low end (obviously). Nothing much below 150Hz or so. Having checked out the specs for the B380 or the B460 (which is what I will be attempting to duplicate), it states that the cross over frequency is 63Hz. I figured I should create a setup with a 10 or 12 inch to fill in the gap.

BTW...I have an Ashly XR-1001 2 way stereo electronic crossover. It will also function as a mono 3 way, so I could always get another one if required. One for each channel.
I have two Ashly FTX-2001 III amps to power the subs. Each good for 300 watts into 8 ohms stereo or 950 watts into 8 ohms bridged mono.

The spec sheet on the 4612ok says - 4 dB at 80 Hz. I think if you crossed over at that point using a second order filter you'd be ok. Personally I wouldn't try to squeeze two more woofers under these cabs.

The BX63/BX63A crossovers were set at 63 Hz. No reason you can't run run the 2245 much higher (ignoring localization effects) if you want to. As noted above, an 80Hz crossover point might be real close to ideal for your setup.

Keep in mind the BX63/BX63A include a hump (+6 dB?) near the tuning frequency (25Hz?) of the B380/B460 cabs to flatten out the response due to the undersized cabinets. Of course you can avoid this by going with a 12ft^3 cabinet for the 2245 rather than the 8 ft^3 used for the B460.

Only 12 cubic foot for the ideal 2245 cabinet? The wife would love that.
What would the ideal size be for the 2235?

Or you could make something practical out of it!

2235 would be almost half the volume at 5 ft. cubed.

    Yup, that's furniture size.

And that explains why high excursion (and low efficiency) drivers get stuffed into small boxes and pounded with kilowatts of power.

What would the general consensus be regarding a 2226H in a 4507 enclosure?

The 2226 is a mid bass driver. Basically, it starts dropping from 100Hz down. It is weak even at 50Hz. It needs serious EQ. A vented box will get to 50Hz then drop. Okay for parties. No for listening. Without a sub (20-40Hz), you'll feel something is missing.

If you already have a pair of Cabaret speakers, then look for a 2245H woofer or a W15GTI. The 2240 wouldn't be bad as it has Fs30Hz vs the 2226's 40Hz.
