    Wow!

Now seeing this has made my day. Much more interesting than large format JBL monitors

To further add to the questions that picture dieterj has posted was used for Harman UK to promote the use of JBL components for 'Cream' in Liverpool England. So are these actualy the stacks from 'Cream' or a standard Phazon design used in many clubs?

    Scott?

All the Phazon stacks from places like Cream, and others were clones of their Twilo system here in NYC! Although Dieter,s picture is not from Twilo, thats exactly what Twilos four corner stacks looked like!

Now Phazon is doing the systems with the Levan basshorn, and JBL Vertec for full range, and tweeter arrays over the dance floor!

I will be going to a club called Spirit here in NYC on Fri Dec 17th to hear a new Phazon with Vertecs installed! They did a club called Roxy, lots of Vertec, too!

Both clubs were at the same address, and had the same owners!

The systems were designed and installed by Steve dash, known as PDS back in the Factory days, and Phazon later on!

Soundman Shorty also worked for them in the Twilo days, and he had alot to do with that room sounding as it did! If he ever shows up on this thread, he can also tell you alot about those syetms, he knows them inside and out! Wireboy, where are you? Come on out and talk to the nice people!

    That pic is only part

Of the original system its just the fullrange section, this RLA system in this pic came from club Z in miami, when its used in a RLA setup, normally there would be a Bertha or Levan horn under these boxes you see in this pic this would then bring the height up of that stack in that pic another 62 inches if the bertha/levan is used.

At Stereo in Montreal I am usin a similar setup that contains of 6 stacks towering @ 13ft8 inches in height that consists of 6 Levan horns powered by 3 3600vz, 2 modified Scoops stacked TAD 1603 loaded powered by 6 Australion Monitor AM 1600, 2 SBS frnt loaded horns total of 12 boxes TAD TM 1201 loaded powered by 3 Bryston 4B sst again stacked, 1 2395 lens TAD 4002 loaded Powered by 1 Bryston 3B SST& 1 2405 tweeter powered by 1 Bryston 2B, we are also using 4 sta tweeter arrays hanging loaded with 4 2402 JBL tweeters 16 total powered by 4 crown D75a, all analog controlled.

The system you see there is not from original factory 27th st, they had 4 TAD 1601a in a quad box, The phazon stack in the pic that was posted is from Cream for the JBL add that has 4 2226 in a quad box that is completly diff from the quad box that was in the original factory consistin of the 4 TAD drivers.

If anyone is interested in hearing a Classic style Analog system done with todays hiend analog processing Made by Bryston SBS modified Email me ill set you up on my list for Stereo nightclub in Montreal Canada.

    Good stuff

    Hello Shorty

As I drag this subject off topic I noticed you must be running your hanging tweeters with two tweeters per channel of D75 on a 4 ohm load or running series/parallel with a bridged D75. I'm running two arrays series/parallel giving eight ohms per channel of just a single D75. Seems sufficent output to keep up with rest of system which is not as big as others mentioned.

I believe these systems to be high efficency compared to 'modern' designs and the manufactured designs of today. I'm suprised nobody has comented on the fact that our favorite JBL low end woofers (2226 2242 etc) are no longer used in much of the current range. Who will be the first with the new 18 inch neo woofers in their next project and what price is the latest technology?

    I dont dislike the 2242!

I just dont care for how they sound in sealed rear chamber folded horns! I think the `42 sounds good in properly tuned, ported cabinets!

Unfortunately, I find I must have some type of horn loading on the bottom end when it comes to Dance Club sound!

Its why I will not give up my corner loaded double 18in scoops, but then we already have a thread on this subject!

    Tad

Perhaps TAD will be there on their own in ten years time for that type of driver. If cost was no object I would like to try a sweet sounding 12 inch TAD mid but got to draw the line somewhere.

I was wondering about the new types of JBL driver. Three inch voice dual coil and neo magnets. Not available as components as yet but may be interesting.

Any more photos of big JBL. Did Scott get that digital camera?

This reminds me of the biggest system I've encountered (at least, as far as concentration of sound on a dance floor). Specifically, the meniton of the CV Earthquake... anyone ever venture into the old R+B/funk club, the Phoenix, here in Atlanta? I don't remember at all what they had for mid-high stacks... but I DO remember the subs, quite well. In the Phoenix, the subs were IN THE BASEMENT... under the dance floor, and there were gratings in the floor to "let the bass in" to the dance area. Under the dance floor, was a mini-apocolypse... TWENTY Cerwin-Vega X-36 Earthquake scoop-horn sub cabinets, lining the walls, all facing the center.

According to people I knew that went there when this was in operation- this was a CONCRETE BLOCK building, but the bass output was so intense, that people on the OUTSIDE of the building could lean their heads against the concrete block wall, and the vibrations transmitted through the CONCRETE were enough to blur your vision. On the dance floor, on the right note, there was also enough airflow through the floor grating/sub grilles to cause the "Marilyn Monroe" dress-blowing-up effect. I've actually seen home movie film that VERIFIED that phenomenon!

IIRC, the CV X36 arrays were run by a bunch of either Crown DC600s or DC1200s... if memory serves, it was DC1200s with 4 cabinets on each amp. I'd have to have seen what the POWER BILL was for THAT place, at the levels they ran it at!!
