    Thanks srm51555.

Finally they have been finished. It was a hell of a job to lift them from the floor. But my wife is very strong person

Unfortunately, I havnt yet listen to them, my amp project is not finished. But its good to have them in house now because the speakers have been staying in my garage for approx 4 month by now.

Here are some pictures taken from my living room when finishing the speakers

    +1

I doubt I would have been so bold, but I like the results. Congratulations!

This finish should definitely be a factory option. I bet the sales would increase. Congratulations on finishing these.

Wow those are beautiful!!!! I really wish JBL would have offered them in a wood cabinet. I took these pictures of mine today. For optimum imaging, I would highly recommend getting them at least 4’ from the wall behind the speaker. It was night and day when I moved mine out a few months ago.

Good eye! Yes it is. Now that it is getting warmer, I’m adding the fans that are sitting in the top of it. I still need to paint it too.....

This may be old news to some but it was a revelation to me.

I remember doing the pricing for the major components for "M2-style cabinets" and the price exceeded my threshold (Mr Wallet can be a cruel master). This was about a year or two ago. These prices, and availability, have always fluctuated and usually in the wrong direction.

However last night I was pleasantly surprised. Prices have dropped (if my memory is correct, or maybe my threshold has risen) and the pieces are readily available (woofer, horn, flange, and driver). For a pair of cabinets it would be well less than $3K (USD). In my case it included all costs to get them to my front door. I appreciate that folks living outside the US will have shipping, taxes, and other fees to contend with, but it may be worth looking again.

It is nice to spread good news,
    -Tom

    Two points of clarification.

When I was in the market for these a couple of years ago I was not diligent in shopping around. This accounts for much of the difference in why I have now revived my project.

I checked two vendors (a popular one in Florida and a somewhat popular one in Massachusetts). For one of the vendors, their prices were anywhere from 30% to 80% higher, However the biggest difference was in the driver D2430K (or JBL # 5032754X). Both double checked and said it was the same driver used in the VTX (their concert array system). The more expensive vendor claimed although it was the same driver, those destined for the M2's were "cherry picked" for frequency response. The other vendor simply said they were for the M2 and made no mention of a difference in quality control. Certainly no mention of whether this layer of quality control this might occur at the factory in Mexico or by the vendor.

This issue about (possibly different) drivers for VTX and M2's has been discussed elsewhere in the forum in years past. It is worth doing a search.

So the conclusion .... 1) It pays to shop around, 2) there was also a difference in shipping (free or not) and taxes (charged or not). 3) The issue of whether the drivers have the same degree of quality control (and whether it is consequential) is up to the buyer.

Nothing has arrived at my doorstep yet. So my opinion may change
