Hard work with a plane, then sanding. But at first I made a template of thin plywood that had a perfect fit to the curved area of the M2 horn. It helped me
to get to the right curvature on the baffles

I like it so much I am tempted to copy it! I am thinking maybe have a template and then cut/route many strips of wood and line them up. How did you make it so smooth!?!

When I was finished sanding I glued a thin approx 3 mm plywood on top of the curved MDF baffles. That removed the small irregularities that was left from planing/sanding and added a better surface to work on compared to MDF that is not any good for painting.

Very nice! I wouldn't put grills on those they look so good!

I think I see a trendy rear access hatch for the D2 as well.

    Who's ports did you use?

Thanks sguttag. Well, if we didnt have the dog in the house, then the speakers could have been used without grills But I want to protect the 1501AL-2 from the animal..........

The ports came originally from SpeakerExchange but they are modified by me. The original ports was 11 inches long and that was to long for the speakers. I have turned
them shorter in a lath and I cut approx 4 inches from the mid section. Then I glued the to halves together. They are now a little bit more than 7 inches in length approx as the
original M2. I wanted to purchase a new batch of those ports but SpEx. has them no longer unfortunately

It was a difficult job to glue the four ports. The glue would not allow me to keep it inside the rim of the curved baffle, it came outside
no matter what glue I used. But now they are securely glued in place and no glue on the front baffle.
I also have painted the rear side once again.

Next. ready for the Danish Oil

Really great to see this coming along! Quite a variety of interpretations along M2 lines.

Here in the US, the factory built M2s can be found at prices that make me scratch my head on why someone would bother building a clone... that said, your speakers look so much better than the rather ugly black coffins that JBL produces it starts to make sense to expend the effort.

Congratulations on a pair of very nice looking speakers!
