Its obviously a K series upgrade.

Suggest you ask our JBL reconer Edgewound to weigh in on this species.

That's what i was thinking. K series.the rest of my thoughts on the matter were pure speculation and casual interest.
I realize that nothing is really definitive but bits and pieces of knowledge can sometimes provide a clearer picture
I have no problem with the date stamp idea, why not

Does everybody have a computer in their pocket these days?? yikes! Mine would never fit in my pocket!

I dont' know this edgewound fellow except by forum reputation, but i would be very interested to hear any insight he may have to offer. The speaker works well and certainly sounds like a bass speaker compared to a D130

    Thanks very much!
I dropped him an email, with a couple photos
I haven't heard back but maybe sending the photos wasn't the best idea on an introductory email
I might've automatically been screened into a junk folder!
    Probably a busy man too

    Good Morning, Tox,

Ken, at Upland Loudspeaker, is a very honest, and exceedingly capable JBL serviceman! He's done work for me quite a few times, and his work is absolutely impeccable!! I've recommended him to some good friends, and they, too, had the same excellent results. If you left him a message, he WILL get back to you. But, he also had a full-time "day job", in addition to his fantastic work on our JBL's. So, please be patient, and you will be rewarded. He is most certainly "worth waiting for", when it comes to things JBL!!! Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

P.S. I, too, have a fairly old D130, and am probably going to take it to Ken, and let him upgrade it, so I can use it for something fun!
The only thing that can never be taken away from you, is your honor. Cherish it, in yourself, and in others.

In case anyone is interested (I sure was)
Here is what Mr. Haerr told me about the D130/K140 I have

"I guess your question has to do with just what is this beast?

You're correct. It's a D130 reconed with a K140 kit. It's now a bass speaker, the K140. It looks to me like the the new stamped serial number could be after possibly the factory remachining the gap to .057" to fit the new cone assembly, and bring the gap to current spec. The original D130 was a narrower gap or .053". "

Very nice man and it was nice to get my thoughts on this confirmed!
