2405 competitors?

I´m about to buy some new diaphragms for my 2405 slotdrivers and I´m wondering if there is any tweeter that would outperform the 2405 ?

I guess the TAD´s could be better, but these are a little too expensive.

It would be difficult to outperform JBL 2405 that is almost flat FR from 8kHz to 20kHz, while over 90 deg dispersion in horizontal plane.
May be Beyma CP21F is near ( up to 18kHz).
Most of the UHF drivers are very narrow dispersion over 13kHz, or some more EQ can be applied.

Well two weeks ago I did a change in my setup. Running 2360a 02446 as mid I was originally using Beyma TPL150h without the horn (my taste). Even though this is an excellent driver I was "missing" something. A old 2402 was then converted to a 2404. Now, that was something back to the live feeling again.

Then I was wondering if the big diameter for the tweeter (44mm) could have a influence on the details and so on? A pair of T825 was on sale and I must admit to my system this is really an upgrade. The ringradiator has a diameter of 20mm giving a little lower 102dB SPL/W than the 2404 combo but in details and agility I hear a big difference which giving my system a very accurate sound that I like.

So, I would say for details and smooth delicious sound they are a go in my system and there are competitors out there that can match JBL (the rest of my gear is JBL, 2240, 2226) :-)

I actually had a lucky day Just bought these two brand new in the box 2405-H. I found them in Nürnberg, southern germany. The seller even had the original guarantee-cards

I prerfer the old Fostex T925 a very good tweeter, but will change next time to th Fostex T500A MKII

I'm 59 now. ...can't hear that much above 12K now.... ...always considered these premo! ..these do smooth out the bad Ti sound from modern mid/high compression drivers that otherwise drive me absolutely nuts...

I've alway heard bad things about current fostex tweeters. People say they sound too smoothed and too polite. To me that means they don't have precise resolution. There's only one fostex tweeter I have heard and I loved them. I didn't know the model so I had to search it out. Its a fostex t825. It was used on there old large format studio monitors. Great sounding tweeter but I've heard there pretty pricey when you find them.

I've heard them in a two or three modern/retro horn speakers they drag to shows and try to sell for for megabucks. If you use a separate amp/EC for your tweeter/supertweeter a lot more options open up.

I'll say it. Tweeters with smooth extended response and sensitivity ratings equal to that of the 2405 are extremely rare and expensive, as this thread pretty much proves. If you take away the sensitivity requirement, there are hundreds of choices. If you are using compression drivers with horns and a passive crossover, then you need a tweeter at least as sensitive as the rest of the system, otherwise you simply can't hear it. If you go with an electronic crossover and and a separate amp for the tweeter you can use a tweeter with lower sensitivity. I'm using the Infinity EMIT-r with my L200s and it sounds wonderful. Most convention low to medium sensitivity tweeters were designed for use with much lower crossover points (2 to 4K) than I'm using (8K), so dynamic compression and distortion are greatly reduced an added bonus. Maximum SPL might be lower than a 2405, but I haven't found that to be a problem in a home setup, and I sometimes listen pretty damn loud.
