I just picked up a pair of 2344 horns, the 2-piece kind, but they missing the throats. The price was right, what can I say, and at last I can see what the real shape and size of these are.. not as big as expected: I can live with these (behind a deep grill...haha).
Any possibility of finding these throats? Are they not too complicated that they couldn't be reproduced from plastic or wood?? These also have the round cutout in them, as used in the 4726.

Let me just tell ya from experience that, "That shit ain't easy to make!"
I thought about making some 1.5" throats for these but after damn near loosing my mind over the making of 4338 throats I decided no way.
If you aren't hell bent on precision, you could make them from aluminum or wood and a die grinder, seriously.
Being as the throats never break but the horns do, I would bet if you are diligent in searching you can find a pair, even if still attached to a ratty pair of horns.

Thanks! The link to the pdf of the design drawings helps, as a start. I'll put on an ebay search, and wait and see.... I figure if I do find some replacements at least it's easier to ship them than the whole horn is.
As for other exit diameters...maybe a 1.4 or 1.5 inch version could be done, but that would taken some acoustic measuring and time. When I get both I'll see what happens..
My other idea was fit a ribbon mid to what I have (a rectangular slot), but the horn exit is curved and the ribbon is flat, hence, potential reflections/distortions etc.

My 2344s don't have the 'ports' or the bottom cutout.

The 2344's pictured come in a small pro box with a 12" nestled right in the round cutout. I am certain they are real JBL. They would make for a great bookshelf system with the right 12".

Yes, there were at least three different versions of the 2344 design.

Yes, a 2 cubic foot box with the right 12 would work well. I do have extra LE14A woofers to play with, and other large cabinets. I'll leave the L100ts alone.
A very serious 3-way using a 2245, 2206, and these horns in a 4345 sized box keeps coming to mind.... new territory, sort of. Bi-amp to the 2245 (established practice), use the 4726A crossover (a JBL design).
But first, restore the pair of L100ts, and get 2344 throats... ~
