    2404 unknown material between sections

While cleaning up a 2404 I found the vestiges of a grey, putty-like material between the plastic "cheeks" and the aluminum piece that surrounds the cone.

What would be the appropriate material or an acceptable substitute for this application?

    Thanks, D.E.

In the dozens of these I have had apart, including brand new ones, I have never seen anything in between these surfaces.

I suspect someone was worried about a throat leak.

    Barry.
If we knew what the hell we were doing, we wouldn't call it research would we.

    Barry.
The stuff seemed wrong altogether. But I wanted to get the facts.

I can proceed with re-assembly now without that "unknown".
