    Sequence out of sync.

Don't know what happened in the sequence. Just think in reverse! One more that did not make it: Crossover repair. Replaced the HF section caps. They were smoked, so were the 2405 diaphragms.

    Add Serial Numbers

    Cabinet 11295:
    Mid 61722
    Horn 17266
    Tweeter 95353
    Crossover 18371-A
    Woofer, Not Original 2235H s.n. 31573

    Cabinet 11293
    Mid 61723
    Horn 17271
    Tweeter 95303
    Crossover ?
    Woofer, 2231H re-coned with 2235H cone s.n. 18777

All internals looked to be original with exception of the woofers. Date on cabinets was early 1980. Tweeter diaphragms were anodized blue, but both were open. Replaced with the pricey JBL diaphragms. Opened one of the mid. horns. Diaphragm looked to be original. Aluminum with spiral surround.

    Barry,

I must confess up front that I have had somewhat of a lust for these guys since I first heard them in 1973. They are set up bi-amped with a Crown I-Tech on the bottom and an old Threshold S500 on top. I'm using the DSP in the Crown for the crossover. Selected the IIR second order Butterworth. Also used the PEQ to remove a serious room resonance at 42 Hertz. I followed some advice that I believe GT had given about delaying the woofers by half of a millisecond. Actually 0.44. The imaging is vastly improved. I would say that it is right up there with the 44 series which IMO is outstanding. Timber and clarity are top notch. I think these beasts hold up very well with todays offerings. I also have a pair of 6332s that I consider very accurate, and they compare well. As is usually something that JBLs are noted for, dynamic range is excellent.

    Regards,

    John

That's what the 4350's did to me, just knocked my socks off and I never got over that experience.

    All the best,
    Barry.
