They look real to my old eyes. One looks a bit more used, but could be fine. Have to listen (and preferably measure... or not) to see if they're worth using.

    Hey Grumpy,

Thanks. I Haven't done anything with them at the moment. I was planning to test them out soon.

    Thanks,
    Nick

I have a question about those diaphragms.

During a conversation I had several years ago with Bruce Edgar, he claimed that JBL was having them powder coated to "soften them up". Is there any truth to his claim?

"Aquaplas" has been used in various colors and thicknesses on a number of drivers (cones), horns, and diaphragms.

Thanks, grumpy. I have read about the Aguaplas here and there on the forum, but Edgar was very specific about the powder coated diaphragms. I was wondering if what he claimed was true.

Electrostatic powder application followed by oven fusing?

Someone else would have to answer that, but the resonance damping implied ("softening"?) seemed to be in line with what I think I recall about Aquaplas intended use. I was under the impression it was sprayed then left to dry, much like a loaded paint. The factory-applied diaphragms I have are quite smoothly and evenly coated.

One more thing, Edgar told me the "powder coat" was black, not that the color would have anything to do with damping. What color are the Aquaplas diaphragms?

    Hi,
As I know only NON-Ribbed diaphragms are black-coated ( SL models for 2450, 51, 52 ), and I have not seen robbed (as yours) coated. May be that can be possible to be done (??)

    regards
